Senior PortraitsSan Juan Capistrano, Orange County

Let me assure you friend:
Every day is ice cream and chocolate cake
And what you make of it, let me say
You get what you take from it so be amazed
And never stop, never stop, never stop
You gotta be brave

‘Cause all this beauty
You might have to close your eyes
And slowly open wide
And watch the sun rise

All This Beauty – The Weepies

I am kind of awestruck at how these images turned out. For me, being in front of the camera is a frightening thing. I am thinking way too much about my posture, hands, breathing and by the time a photo is taken I am already back to my slouching stance. But for some people, like Kim, standing in front of  the camera and feeling confident is as normal and natural as doing homework on a Tuesday afternoon.

You see, my cute little cousin wanted to take senior portraits and drove all the way up from San Diego to meet me in San Juan Capistrano. I couldn’t believe that this little girl has turned into a woman right before my eyes. I remember meeting her in Vietnam for the first time when she was two and half years old. Now, she’s talking about prom and ready to enter college.

I’m so glad I got the chance to capture Kim at this stage in her life and to be able to see life through her eyes makes me feel so young and excited for her future.

Thanks for stopping by!

All photos were taken with a 35mm film camera with a combination of Kodak Portra 160 and Fuji 400H film stock and scanned by Goodman Film Lab.
