It’s always so hard to leave an incredible wedding but Jay + Josie’s special day left me a little more emotional than usual as it was my last wedding of my first year being a full-time photographer. I can’t properly express how grateful I am to all the friendships I’ve made along the way but I hope you got a glimpse of how special these weddings were and I seriously can’t wait to see where the new year takes me!
On their 5th year anniversary, on the most loveliest autumn day in La Canada Flintridge, Jay and Josie shared their vowels with their families and friends. It wasn’t just because the weather was insanely gorgeous or that Josie’s laced mermaid gown made me want to stare at it forever but the day was incredibly special because Jay + Josie are the most caring and loving couple I’ve had the honor to photograph.
It was even more special when I found out they were getting married in Jay’s best friends backyard where him and his friends shared endless summer nights in the back house hanging out and dreaming of a future they have yet to know. And one of the many moments I will never forget as the groomsmen were getting ready, Jay held back tears reading Josie’s card in that very same back house and I swear, it was the beginning of an emotional day for all.
J+J’s ceremony was held under the most romantic drooping tree branches that made for the perfect rustic autumn backdrop. Although the ceremony was only about 15 minutes, it felt like time slowed down just for the two of them.
What an exit huh?!
But there’s more! So right in the middle of taking serious formal portraits, Jay thoughtfully bombed the session to feed his new bride and to our surprise Josie stuffed as much food as she could into her mouth while everybody was happily watching 😀
After family and wedding party portraits, we snuck away for bride and groom photos at this hidden overlook that was utterly magical! It was as if J+J were meant for this very moment.
Towards the end of the night, Josie surprised Jay by singing a song while playing on her ukulele. I know, right? You see, they met in a co-ed cappella group at UCSB and nothing could have felt more perfect as the wedding party got up (as planned) during the chorus and sang with them.
Jay + Josie, it was truly an honor to be a part of your wedding. It was so filled with so much love for your families and friends, and I think you inspired a whole lot of people to tend to their friendships with care and joy. You definitely inspired me!
“Finding a good photographer was one of the most important things that I wanted for my wedding. When I found Ashley’s website, scrolling through her portfolio felt like hitting the jackpot. When we met with her in person, I was even more sure that she was the one I wanted to capture our big day – she was so warm, passionate, and genuine. She is an absolute DREAM to work with – even guests at our wedding commented on how great she worked with everyone (and family pictures can be quite the circus!) She knew exactly the feel that my husband and I wanted, and the pictures emanate all the anticipation, joy, and love we felt that day. Although she has the modernity and edge of a blossoming photographer, she has the sophistication and the eye of a seasoned veteran. We can’t wait to work with Ashley again once we start our little family 🙂 We love you Ash!”
